Product Description of Coated Sand Production Line
The Coated Sand Production Line is a fully automated system integrating pre-heating, mixing, cooling, screening, storage, and conveying, specifically designed for producing high-quality thermosetting phenolic resin-coated sand. It is widely used in the manufacturing of automotive components, engine blocks, exhaust manifolds, turbocharger housings, valves, pumps, and precision castings. Utilizing a "counter-flow heating + precise metering + high-speed mixing + rapid cooling" process, the line ensures uniform resin coating on sand particles, resulting in high-strength, low-gas-emission, and highly flowable coated sand—meeting the stringent requirements of shell molding machines and core shooters.
With a capacity range of 1–20 tons/hour, the line can be flexibly configured for single-shift, double-shift, or continuous operation, supporting fully automated, unattended operation. It seamlessly integrates with core shooters, molding lines, and central control systems (MES) to build an intelligent foundry sand center.
Process Flow
1. Raw Material Preparation & Conveying
Silica sand (washed/calcined) is conveyed via bucket elevator or pneumatic system to a dry sand silo, ensuring stable temperature and moisture ≤0.2%.
Liquid phenolic resin, hardener (hexamine), and additives (calcium stearate, lubricants) are stored in temperature-controlled tanks and fed by precision metering pumps.
Silica sand (washed/calcined) is conveyed via bucket elevator or pneumatic system to a dry sand silo, ensuring stable temperature and moisture ≤0.2%.
Liquid phenolic resin, hardener (hexamine), and additives (calcium stearate, lubricants) are stored in temperature-controlled tanks and fed by precision metering pumps.
2. Sand Pre-heating System
Cold sand enters a counter-flow hot-air heating drum, where it contacts high-temperature air (250–300°C) in counter-current flow, raising sand temperature to 120–140°C within 8–12 minutes—ensuring uniform heating without local overheating.
Hot air is recycled for energy efficiency.
3. Mixing System (Core Process)
Pre-heated sand, resin, and hardener are fed into a high-speed twin-shaft or planetary mixer, where resin coating and initial condensation occur within 60–90 seconds.
Mixing homogeneity ≥98%, ensuring uniform resin distribution, high strength, and excellent flowability.
4. Cooling & Screening System
Hot coated sand is cooled to ≤50°C in a twin-disk or fluidized bed cooler to prevent premature curing.
A vibratory screen removes lumps and impurities, ensuring free-flowing sand.
5.Finished Product Storage & Conveying
Qualified coated sand is stored in a finished product silo, then conveyed via screw conveyor or pneumatic system to usage points (e.g., core shooter hoppers).
Supports multi-route distribution for zoned feeding.
